Creating your own paper Ava Flowers.

Here at Cornerhouse 115 we make all our own paper flowers.

Today I'm going to be sharing with you how to make, what I call 'Ava' flowers. (I named these after my lovely niece)

In these pictures I have used recycled book pages. You can of course use any paper, you can mix things up and alternate the colours on one flower or keep them bold and one colour.

They make a lovely embellishment to add to gift tags or decorating your Book Art, greetings cards or even added to photo frames to add some texture.

So what will you need?

  • Your chosen paper for your petals,

  • A flower/scallop punch (or a template and cut with scissors,

  • A hole punch,

  • Brads or split pins for the centres.

First, you need to create your flower backs and petals.

For the petals (seen at the top of the image) I used a flower design die along with my die cutting machine.

If you don't have one of these you can

make a template similar to the image and hand cut them or use a paper punch.

I used a scallop paper punch for the backs (seen in the lower part of the image) and created a hole in the centre using a hole punch.

Take a flower petal and fold in half.

Then half again.

Now apply a small amount of glue to the corner,

Attach the petal to the backer. You can cover a quarter of the hole and backer.

Continue attaching the petals onto the backer, ensuring each petal cover a quarter until all 4 petals are attached.

Now you can push your Brad/Split Pin through the centre and open out the pin to secure it.

Congratulations! You've made your first Ava Flower. really hope you enjoy making them and that they add a lovely finishing touch or addition to your craft.
