Method to the Book Art Madness

You may have noticed whilst looking at our Book Art that some have completely different styles that all come under the same umbrella of Book Art.

If you are a crafter yourself you may have questions about these various styles. I hope you explain in this blog all the methods that are currently available:

Measure, Mark and Fold. (MMF)

Measure, Mark and Fold, also known as MMF, is by far the most common Book Art you will see. This method is created making 2 measurements to each page then folding each page to those points. As you can see in the picture above, you can create a simple word or picture using this method.

Cornerhouse 115 is currently offering a free MMF pattern and tutorial for a Heart Book Art. If you would like to download it please follow this link: to join our Facebook Group where we assist crafters with learning the Art of Book Folding:

Measure, Mark, Cut and Fold. (MMCF)

Standard.

With additional fold.

Using the MMCF method means you can begin to use more intricate designs. Each page must be marked according to the measurements on the pattern, with this method however rather than there just being 2 measurements to a leaf there can be up to 56! Once your Book is marked a small cut is made to each measurement and a small tab is created, each of these is the folded in which creates the image. The 2nd picture for this method is still a MMCF but before marking the book every page is folded a few center metres in.

Combination, Cut and Fold. (Combi)

A Combi is exactly as it sounds. It's a combination of the two above methods. The pattern stipulates where to fold and where to cut. This is Cornerhouse 115's favourite type of Book Art due to its overall appearance.

Shadow.

The Shadow method allows your pattern to be so intricate that portraits can be made into Book Art. Depending on where to stand in relation to the piece depends on the clarity of the image, appearing almost like a mirage as you walk by it. The difference between this and the MMCF method is the use of an inset page for every other page.

So there you have it, many different ways are used to create our pieces and the type of patterns we design alter the overall appearance. We hope you have found this useful and informative. As always our Book Art patterns include a tutorial specific to the method used and are available from here:
